Tickets are now available at the union office and we urge you to obtain them as soon as possible. If you are planning to purchase your tickets at the gate or after Tuesday, July 6th, we would appreciate it if you could simply call the union office and advise us of the number of tickets you will be purchasing. In this manner, we will have an accurate number of the meals that we require for the day of the picnic. Your co-operation in this regard would be greatly appreciated. New: Canadian citizens will be required to present a valid passport when seeking to enter the U.S. at its land or water crossings. Canadian citizens 15 years of age or under will only require proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate or a Canadian citizenship card. Please make sure you have all your required identification to cross the border for you, your family and advise your guests as well.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING THE PICNIC: Martin’s Fantasy Island is located less than 10 minutes from Niagara Falls and the Canadian border. Follow I-190 to Exit N-19 and you have arrived. Important Reminders: Members are advised that tickets must be purchased at the union office or from Local 105 Committee members at the gate until 11:30 a.m., in order to participate in the Local 105 Picnic. Tickets purchased elsewhere for Martin's Fantasy Island will not be honoured at the park for admittance into the Local 105 area. Everyone is reminded that you are not allowed to bring ALCOHOL IN THE PARK and your picnic baskets and hampers will be checked prior to entering the park. Letter From the First District Office “We have been contacted by an organization called “Friends of Orphans”, which is a volunteer group that is assisting in rebuilding in Haiti. They have all the expertise they need with the exception of licensed electricians. They are looking for two volunteer electricians to fly into the Dominican Republic and then travel by ground transportation to Haiti for one week in late September 2010 to work on a damaged building. Meals and accommodations will be supplied but the volunteer electricians may have to pay for their airfare from Toronto to the DR. If this is the case, a receipt for the amount of the airfare will be issued as a donation for income tax purposes. There is a possibility there will be no cost for the airfare. If there are empty seats on the flight, the airline may donate the flight, but these details are not finalized.” Anyone interested in participating in this volunteer project, please call Shaffie at the union office at 905-387-1721 ext. 0, as soon as possible. Then we will notify the First District Office of your interest and they can notify the “Friends of Orphans” leadership team that this void has been filled by the IBEW. |

Mesothelioma Testing at Princess Margaret Hospital Update: Since our last newsletter, we have been informed that the testing procedure at Princess Margaret has changed. They will now only take four members at one time for each clinic. There is a significant amount of paperwork that must be completed which takes up a lot of the appointment. Also, you must call Princess Margaret yourself to initiate the testing. The number to call is: 1-416-340-5686. There is no exception to this as they have questions to ask that only you can answer. There are six clinics scheduled for September so we could have 24 members complete the testing in September and then the remainder in October. We will call all the members on the list and advise you of other interested members so four members could car pool together. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding.
